Preparing for factions? well, I have a huge 2-3k saved up. Lol, I'm not saving up at all really. This morning before class I saw that I had enough money and skill points to unlock the ramaining dozen or so non-elite ranger skills on my main character, so I did. Leaving my ranger with about 300gp. I have enough crafting materials to make sure my new characters won't be begging. I'm pretty sure my ranger won't dump his hard-earned(roughly 2-3% farming) 15k druid's armor anytime soon. Unless of course there's a new canthan skin for +energy armor. Which I haven't heard about.

Not made my mind up regarding new character/s yet so no crafting materials

1400k
50 - Ecto
20 - black dye
5 - Superior Vigor

May sells the Ecto’s before Factions.

The big question, the ONLY question that matters, is where will the market in Factions start? If it's a virgin market, then the economy will be destroyed as soon as someone makes it to the first trader outpost. 100g black dyes and superior runes? Who wouldn't have a field day on that? Or will initial prices be on parallel with the Prophecies market, even though they're two different games? Either way it's gonna get ugly fast.

If you're a new player and Factions is your first GW game, you'll go in with no money. It won't be a week before the most popular runes, dyes, materials, and weapons will be prohibitively expensive. Sure I have a lot of assets from grinding Chapter 1 for almost a year, but I feel for someone starting fresh. If the market starts low so that new players can afford stuff, rich greedy folks will snap up everything they can buy on day one and the economy is fuxxored right out the box. If it starts high to keep the fatcats from snarfing up everything (which they still will), then new players STILL won't be able to afford anything.

In my opinion, the Factions economy will be stillborn. The divide between rich and poor will be much worse than it is in chapter 1.

I should add that as more chapters are released, players who can farm items (weapons, shields, etc) whose skins are exclusive to older games and then bring them to the new games stand to make a killing.

There's no way Anet would reset the Faction traders! It will be a global economy. It won't get ugly, it will be the same as when I started playing Guild Wars - I realized I'd never be able to afford Rune of Superior Vigor and then realized that it really didn't matter.

It did not make the game any less fun. (in a way, it's more fun, because I know if I ever do find an expensive Rune I can sell it and finally be "rich". Such is the possibility of any new players...)

A virgin economy would make the economy worse for the GW community as a whole. People will just buy the "high in demand stuff" and resell it at a ridiculous price because they almost have a virtual "monopoly" on the item. As someone said before "the rich will get richer and the poor will just get poorer."

New players have to realize that dyes and runes are a luxury not a necessity in completing and enjoying the game. Craftings mats are usually low priced in terms of going to the mats trader and picking up what you need. Weapons are much easier to get around since most collecters in the game give the equivalant of a "perfect" weapon anyways minus the "spiffy" skin of course. (I.E a 20/20 rod/staff, 15^50 sword from weapon crafter in drok, desert collecters, blah blah etc etc.)

I was under the impression Factions was going to use entirely different components for its armor.

Am I mistaken in believing this?

I don't think Factions armor would use entirely different materials, most common materials will remain the same and some currently unused rare materials may have a use in Factions and probably several new materials introduced, but it's impossible they would totally change all the materials.

Why would Factiosn not share the same economy?

Outside of Superior Vigor/Absoprtion, Sup Monk runes, and maybe a few Sup warrior runes, all of the runes are extremely cheap from the trader. In fact, new faction players would have far better access to runes than us when we started prophecies.

Dyes well, are more of a luxury, and only black dyes are expensive.

I'm sure the new players will be fine.

Took on a hydra while frenzied without armor, and used Healing Signet.
I find farming an extremely unpleasant task. I can't do FoW or UW alone, I don't get lucky with FoW chests, I don't get greens from Tombs or SF... So I farm hydras, I get about 4k each run in items and salvage materials. Takes about 30 minutes.

And if I get money, I usually spend it on something, I can't even remember where the cash from some superior monk runes went into. I always have something to buy and then I'm broke. I won't be playing until Factions is released, to keep that sum safe.

That's the spirit of real player, we all should be like him and all ppl who are like he is... Money isn't improtant so much if you are happy with your items and have nice friends in guild, so never be disappoined 'bout cash.

the armor in factions isn't any better than the one in prophecies... at least armorclass-wise.

No, but the ranger armor just looks great. That might even be my first few trips... new armors for Prophecies characters.

Getting there, taking a big investment for Factions.

Apart from the obvious:
2x Energy +5 Staff Upgrade
1x 20% Enchantment Staff Upgrade
1x 30HP Staff Upgrade

Hopefully this will get me started...

Phew. Got some spare belt pouches and runes bags for my new ones now. Very glad someone mentioned that.
